RUSSELL T DAVIES TO RETURN AS SHOWRUNNER FOR 60TH AND SERIES BEYOND

The BBC have now confirmed who will replace Chris Chibnall as Head Writer/Showrunner - Chibnall is set to leave the series after the 2022 specials which will coincide with the BBC's Centenary celebrations - Series 13 is due to air this year and will contain six hour long episodes.

After the specials, Chibnall will be replaced by former showrunner Russell T Davies who will be returning to the series for the first time since his last episode "The End of Time: Part Two" which aired on New Years Day 2010 - a whole 11 years!

Davies will be joined by the production company "Bad Wolf Productions" who will produce the series alongside Davies and BBC Studios - Bad Wolf Productions has a massive connection to the series as it is run by Julie Gardner who was an Executive Producer on the show alongside Russell T Davies between 2005 and 2010 - and Jane Tranter who was the BBC Executive that commissioned Doctor Who's return back in 2004, the company's name is also a homage to the Bad Wolf storyline from Series 1 of New Who.

Their first job will be cast the 14th Doctor as Jodie Whitakker will bow out of the role alongside Chris Chibnall in 2022 - Once cast, attention will then turn to the show's 60th anniversary.
